In the course of the Green Ambassadorship Program, we have had the privilege of witnessing the incredible journeys of many passionate environmental advocates. One of such inspiring stories is that of Selma, a dedicated climate activist from Algeria whose unwavering commitment to fostering sustainable practices has made a profound impact both locally and across the region.
Selma’s passion for the environment led her to found “Together for Blue and Green,” an initiative focused on climate action in Algeria. Through this platform, Selma and her team have organized numerous cleanup campaigns, workshops on sustainability, and reforestation projects. Their collective efforts have resulted in the planting of thousands of trees in arid areas, combating desertification and climate change.
Extending her impact beyond local initiatives, and recognizing the power of collaboration, she helped establish the MENA Youth Network, which connects young environmental activists across the Middle East and North Africa. This network has been instrumental in amplifying the voices of youth in environmental policy dialogues and promoting cross-border collaborations on various sustainability projects.
Selma’s quest to be more, led to her participation in ANGA’s Green Ambassadorship Program which she described as a cornerstone of her journey. The program provided her with invaluable training and resources on sustainable practices and leadership. “The Green Ambassadorship Program has been crucial in my journey,” Selma shared. “It equipped me with the knowledge and tools to drive impactful projects and expanded my network to include fellow activists and experts from across Africa.”
Through the program, Selma gained in-depth knowledge about renewable energy and the circular economy, which she has successfully integrated into her initiatives. The support and insights gained from ANGA continue to inspire and empower her advocacy, pushing her towards a more sustainable and resilient future for Algeria and beyond.
This is a testament to the power of passion and dedication in driving environmental change. Looking ahead, Selma’s vision is clear: to create a sustainable and resilient future for Algeria and her continent at large – Africa. By empowering local communities, fostering regional collaborations, and advocating for sustainable policies, she strives to ensure that future generations inherit a healthier, more vibrant planet.
